F1 arrives on the Las Vegas strip, with the team putting up four selections across this weekend’s racing action
Formula 1 heads to the glamourous Las Vegas strip this weekend, with the world-famous city hosting a Grand Prix for the first time in 41 years.
To mark the occasions, our team of tipsters has looked at the available markets – picking out a few value tips for Saturday’s big race.
Here are the best bets for the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
FANTASTIC FERNANDO
A brand new track kicks up its challenges – and the fact it is a street circuit as well makes it more difficult for drivers to prepare for.
In this instance, you really want to back a talented driver with natural ability and a solid car to get the job done – so you can’t be blamed for siding with clear favourite Max Verstappen here.
However, he may not be 100% focuses for this event – as he already stated he is not looking forward to racing this week and dubbed the Las Vegas Grand Prix as ‘99% show, 1% sporting event’.
Verstappen’s disregard for the entire event could play on his mind, and potentially give another driver a chance to put in a big performance here.
The Ferraris will be quick, but their recent mechanical issues don’t give them much reason to trust them. The Mercedes will put up a good show likely (we’ll dive into that a bit later), but the car does not look good enough to win a race currently.
The interesting option here is F1 veteran Fernando Alonso. The two-time F1 World Champions is arguably one of the most talented drivers of his generation, and his racing ability is unparalleled at times.
Aston Martin went back to basics before Brazil and it paid off – as Alonso produced something special to overtake Perez in the final lap and claim a podium finish.
The Spaniard loves a test – and while a podium finish would be respectable enough in the current situation, he could even go all the way and land a big gamble on the Las Vegas strip.
TIP: Fernando Alonso Podium Finish (+1100, DraftKings Sportsbook)
TIP: Fernando Alonso Race Winner (+5500, DraftKings Sportsbook)
MAGNUSSON THE MIGHTY
Proving to be an underrated participant at less than conventional racing circuits, Kevin Magnusson could put up a big performance for Haas.
The Danish driver many only has three points to his name this season, but it’s where he’s picked those points up from. Magnusson finished 10th at Miami and Singapore, and he was six seconds off the points in Azerbaijan.
The track layout will suit the Haas car here, especially the long straights, while the cooler temperatures will play into their favour.
While teammate Nico Hulkenberg has performed better in recent weeks, Magnusson could thrive on this track and push into the top 10 for the fourth time this season.
TIP: Kevin Magnusson Top 10 Finish (+550, DraftKings Sportsbook)
STRIKE OF THE SILVER ARROWS
With five fastest lap times under their belts already this season, the two Mercedes cars could be in line to claim another top time point here once again.
Three of those laps came on street circuits, which makes them good value to get the fastest lap time on the streets of Las Vegas here.
Lewis Hamilton has claimed four of the five fastest lap times for Mercedes, and his price to do so at +1100 looks a good matchup – especially with the long straights on offer here.
