PICKS FOR THE FIRST OF THREE HUGE CONSECUTIVE EVENTS

The PGA TOUR goes signature event-major-signature event for the next three weeks, beginning Thursday with the Memorial Tournament from Muirfield. Whilst LIV is also in action this week before the players come together again for the US Open from Pinehurst next week.

We’re making two bets on the action from Muirfield with a change in strategy from recent. Scheffler may be back in the field but his wins aren’t yet quite a formality so we’re happy to take him on with a couple of hopefuls.

Meanwhile at LIV Houston, the outright winner race looks open at the odds and yet there’s clearly a standout contender on form to finish top of the pile at the conclusion of the three-day event.

MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT DOUBLE CHANCE: CANTLAY OR HOVLAND (+1000, DraftKings)

It will obviously take something spectacular to beat Scheffler, Schauffele and McIlroy with the results they’re hammering in, but in Hovland and Cantlay we are betting three of the last five winners and some of the best course form of the past six years.

Cantlay is a machine around Muirfield. In seven starts he’s managed; T35-4-1-T32-1-T3-T30. While Hovland picked up the trophy last year and has made the cut on all four starts.

There are issues in the 2024 form for both of these, but the signs of revival were clear with Hovland’s solo 3rd at the PGA Championship (his first back with his 2023 coach) and whilst Cantlay is also yet to win this year, he hasn’t missed a cut and he’s been close to victory at two signature events.

2024 form aside, in the not too distant past these have both been big occasion winners and certainly will be again.

MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT TOP 10 FINISH: JUSTIN ROSE (+650, Caesars)

The form of Valhalla may be a great indicator to a good performance this week. Previous winners and great Muirfield scorers were aplenty at the top of the PGA Championship leaderboard. One such is Justin Rose and he’s offering a lot of value here.

Rose has looked at his best this season over his last two starts, an impressive T6 at Valhalla followed by a good run at Colonial (including a Saturday 66) before a poor Sunday dropped him into T32.

The Englishman didn’t tee up at the Canadian Open last week for the first time in a few years. Interestingly given he has a good record north of the border. His preparation for the next three events is serious and this course requires a

The 43-year-old won this all the way back in 2010, and since then he’s put in remarkably consistent results; 8th in 2012, T8 in 2013, 2nd in 2015, T6 in 2018 and 13th in 2019.

LIV HOUSTON WINNER: BRYSON DECHAMBEAU (+1000, Caesars)

Bryson is perhaps the unluckiest player not to have a major to his name this season and this confidence player will be right at it ahead of another tilt next week.

In the Golf Club of Houston, DeChambeau has a course that will allow him to unleash his power frequently. He was a long way clear on the driving distance at Valhalla and leads the same standings for the season on LIV too.

The 30-year-old hasn’t been at his best in the two LIV events around the majors but with two wins in the final five last season and a string of top 10 results earlier this season, we expect fortunes to change as Bryson understands the mentality better of challenging on both fronts.

All odds as of Tuesday June 4.
