THREE TOP FINISHING POSITION SELECTIONS
The stars return for another designated event this week as the PGA TOUR lands in Dublin, Ohio for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Following a few events where accuracy off the tee has been essential, the players have it a little easier this week with generous fairways but their approach iron play will need to be up to scratch to stay out of trouble around the greens.
Scheffler (+600) was just one shot back over the weekend and the man in-form is a worthy favorite at Muirfield Village. He’ll face stiff competition from a fresh Jon Rahm (+700) and some seriously strong iron players including Schauffele (+1200) and Morikawa (+2200). At the odds, Morikawa is great value and we wouldn’t deter you from a win bet on perhaps the best iron player on tour over the past couple seasons, however we’ll be making our bets across the top finishing position markets.
TOP 5 FINISHING POSITION: RICKIE FOWLER (+700, Caesars)
Fowler continued his resurgence with a T6 in the Charles Schwab Challenge, carding a final round that was the best in the field. That result marked his eighth top 20 finish this season and he’s playing with the confidence that could bring about even better results on courses that suit.
Muirfield Village is one of such courses. The American ranks ninth in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green, so we expect to see Fowler contending near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
TOP 5 FINISHING POSITION: SAHITH THEEGALA (+1000, Caesars)
Theegala finished T5 here last season after a T32 on debut the previous season. Similar to last season, the American comes into the tournament off a string of made cuts, however he hadn’t shown nearly the same form in those events as he has done this season. Theegala is chasing his third top five of the year and the previous two have come on courses with similar requirements on tricky approach shots.
When you consider that Theegala put up all the right statistical numbers to score well here last season, and he’s coming here in better form this season, odds of +1000 for a top five finish are far too large for this hugely talented, and hungry for success, golfer.
TOP 10 FINISHING POSITION: RYAN FOX (+900, Caesars)
Fox gained special temporary membership to the tour off the back of his PGA Championship and immediately posted a T21 on a course that really shouldn’t have been much to his liking. The Kiwi clearly has a point to prove on U.S. soil having previously impressed around the world on the DP World Tour.
Fox ranked 15th in Strokes Gained: Approach The Green last week and we expect a similar display at Muirfield Village, where his occasionally errant driving won’t be punished as harshly as it has been.
