After landing the winner in both big races at Kentucky last season, our racing tipster is back with two picks for this year’s Kentucky Oaks

The first big meeting of the Triple Crown gets underway this weekend, as the Kentucky Oaks takes place on Friday afternoon.

After picking Pretty Mischievous out to win last year’s contest, our horse racing expert is back with two selections for this year’s race.

He has selected runners that come from the yards of William Mott and Brad H Cox, so they are definitely worth checking out.

Here are the Best Bets for the 2024 renewal of the Kentucky Oaks.

BEST BET: Just F Y I

An intriguing filly from William Mott’s stable, Just F Y I could land her third Group 1 career success here.

The three-year-old has already claimed over $1million in prize money – with the majority of that fund coming in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies back in November.

The Justify filly did finish second on her reappearance behind Leslie’s Rose – but there’s a main factor that can rule a line through that run.

She missed her first intended run of the season due to a fever – that could have easily had knock on effects for her seasonal opener in the Ashland Stakes.

Just F Y I will be a threat here if she is back to her best – and the rainy conditions shouldn’t hinder her either.

LONGSHOT: Gin Gin

Brad Cox obviously has a bigger chance of claiming the Oaks with current market favorite Tarifa, but there’s something about his second string runner Gin Gin.

The weather forecast is what interests me here, as it is already raining at Churchill Downs. It is predicted to continue all throughout Friday – which will affect the course.

Wet conditions have clearly suited Gin Gin in the past, who won the Busanda Stakes on a muddy Aqueduct dirt course. Her status as a big outsider is probably fair on form, but she could show some progress if she takes her chance at this level.

Her stallion (Hightail) has produced a Grade 1 winner in Mongolian Groom, while her Dam’s Sire (Hard Spun) has brought in several Group and Graded victors across the planet.

There’s definitely some chance in Gin Gin breaking into the frame here, and there’s maybe even a chance she could produce a huge upset in Kentucky.
