Our basketball tipster picks out a handful of outside selections for the opening round of this year’s men’s NCAA Tournament

March Madness is finally here, with the First Four kicking off this evening.

Our basketball tipster has bypassed the opening stage in terms of betting – and instead, he has picked out three potential upsets to back in the First Round.

His selections include the likes of Samford, NC State and James Madison – priced at +275, +290 and +300!

Here are the Three Potential Upset Bets for the First Round of this year’s March Madness tournament.

For the first time in 24 years, Samford are playing their part in March Madness.

Bulldogs coach Bucky McMillian has revived the SoCon team, as they recorded 25 wins in the regular season for the first time in the school’s history.

They could prove to be a difficult task for fourth seed Kansas – who are likely without Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar in their opening March Madness fixture.

The Jayhawks lacked the depth need for a title push as well, and that could prove to be problematic against a Samford side that has seen ten members of its roster record an average of 10+ minutes per game this season.

This is a potential banana skin for Kansas, and the Bulldogs look good value to cause an upset in Utah.

TIP: Samford ML (+300, FanDuel)

After producing a Cinderella run in the ACC Tournament, NC State snatched a March Madness berth at the death over the weekend.

The Wolfpack stunned North Carolina with an 84-76 win on Saturday night to claim the ACC title, winning five games in five days to do the unthinkable and claim their ticket to Pittsburgh.

That momentum could carry with them into the NCAA tournament, as they face a Texas Tech team that was blown out by Houston in the Big 12 Tournament last week.

NC State have won their last five games by at least five points, so taking them on the alternative spread in this matchup looks good value.

TIP: NC State -3.5 (+275, FanDuel)

After making a brief appearance in the AP Top 25 poll earlier in the season, James Madison could continue their promising campaign with an early scalp in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

The Sun Belt school face off against number five seed Wisconsin, who endured a terrible of run of form in February before stabilizing themselves at the end of the regular season.

That shaky run of form could benefit James Madison, who won the Sun Belt Tournament over the weekend and finish their regular season campaign with a 31-3 record.

Sun Belt player of the year Terrence Edwards Jr. could spur the Dukes onto success in this matchup, and get them firing from the off against Wisconsin.

Their moneyline doesn’t hold the most value, but their half-time/full-time parlay does – especially as James Madison have been leading at half-time in nine of their last ten games.

TIP: James Madison/James Madison First Half Winner/Full Time Winner Parlay (+290, FanDuel)
