Our Basketball expert is back with three picks for this evening’s NBA Western Conference Finals matchup

It’s crunch time in the NBA Playoffs, as the Western Conference Finals gets underway this evening.

Two unexpected seeds face off for a place in the NBA Finals, as the Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves take on Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

After landing a +650 futures bet involving the Pacers and the Celtics, our basketball expert is back with three selections for this evening’s matchup.

Here are the best bets for Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Before the playoffs even started, so many pundits and fans were doubting the Timberwolves. Many were eve expecting them to go out in the first round to the Phoenix Suns.

Now they’re in the Western Conference Finals and the current second favourite to win the NBA Finals.

Their Game 7 comeback against the Nuggets was near-legendary – as they found a way to completely silence MVP Nikola Jokic in the second half and keep the Denver offence to only 37 points across the third and fourth quarter.

That level of defense could well help them here, especially against a free-scoring Luka Doncic. If they can keep the Mavericks star at bay, they could well cruise to victory in Game 1.

Take the Timberwolves to cover the spread here.

TIP: Minnesota Timberwolves -4 (-112, FanDuel)

It’s not often I go with an under market, but here we are.

The Timberwolves defense has arguably been the best in the NBA this season, and they could well disrupt the Mavericks this evening. If there’s a team that could keep Dallas under 100 points, it’s Minnesota.

That makes interesting viewing on Doncic’s points total – as he is hovering around the 29.5 point mark at the time of writing.

This will very likely be a defensive contest. You only have to look at the Timberwolves limiting Jokic to 22 and 24 points in two of their three home ties in the last series to see that as a possiblility.

Add in the fact that Doncic is fighting through injuries, and it could well prove to be a quiet night for the Slovenian.

Take Doncic’s under in this matchup.

TIP: Luka Doncic Under 29.5 Points (-128, FanDuel)

A slight outside play dependant on who he marks, but they could well be some value in Mike Conley’s rebound total this evening.

The point guard has recorded 42 rebounds across his last 10 games – recording four or more in seven of his last nine outings.

Now obviously his rebound total will completely depend on who he is tasked with dealing with. If it’s Kyrie Irving, it likely will prove to be a dud bet.

However, if he is to mark Derrick Jones Jr, then there is definitely some value in this line.

This is more of a suggestion rather than a bet – so just keep an eye on the starting line-ups.

TIP: Mike Conley Over 3.5 Rebounds (+126, FanDuel)
