Our basketball expert is back with three big-priced selections for this year’s NBA Playoffs

The NBA Playoffs are here – with an exciting first round to get things going.

Ahead of this year’s bracket, our basketball expert has scoured through the betting markets – picking out a few longshots that could hold some value.

His picks feature the likes of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Indiana Pacers.

Here are this year’s longshot bets for this year’s NBA Playoffs.

A lot of people do not believe that the Timberwolves can do some damage in the NBA Playoffs this season.

Yes, their past history in the playoffs is not great and their (so-called) young team lacks the experience of being a championship-winning side. The franchise has never played in the NBA Finals either.

But there are some things that are not being considered. Firstly, they had the best record against Western Conference sides throughout the regular season, winning 37 of their 52 games.

Their defense is arguably the best across the NBA this season, with Rudy Gobert being a standout in their 56-win season. Their three-point shooting percentage was the third best in the league at 38.7% and the pairing of Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns is good enough to take on most teams.

They kick things off against an inconsistent Suns side – who had their own fans calling for Frank Vogel to be fired less than two weeks ago. While it will be deemed a tricky matchup, the Timberwolves could have enough to get past them.

Both the Nuggets and the Thunder will prove to be a real test, but Minnesota didn’t roll over against them in the regular season – going 2-2 against the pair of them.

The Timberwolves hold some ridiculous odds to win this conference, and they clearly look the value bet in this market. In case everything does click, it could be worth backing them to win the entire thing – with a small stake of course.

TIP: Minnesota to win the Western Conference (+1100, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Another undervalued option in the betting, Indiana have impressed with their offensive style this season.

The Pacers had the second-best offense throughout the regular season, and their path to reaching the NBA Finals looks more clear than other teams.

They take on a depleted Bucks team that are without powerhouse forward Giannis Anteteokounmpo, so they have now become favourite to win the series in the betting.

Their second-round tie looks winnable at this stage – as they could face the likes of the Knicks or the 76ers, which they both beat in the season series.

They are fortunate to be on the other side of the draw to the Celtics – who they would likely play in the Eastern Conference Finals. Those two teams reaching the penultimate series before the NBA Finals looks good value here.

If the Pacers were to pull off an upset and reach the NBA Finals, then it could be worth having a small stake on them to do so at +3000.

TIP: Boston Celtics v Indiana Pacers Eastern Conference Finalists (+650, Draftkings Sportsbook)

TIP: Indiana Pacers to win the Eastern Conference (+3000, FanDuel)
