Our resident tipster picks out his four AFC Division winners for the 2023 NFL season

The NFL is just over four weeks away, with the first preseason game getting underway last weekend.

The first of this week’s NFL Future articles touch on the AFC, as our resident tipster name his 2023 winner for each of the four divisions in the conference.

Here are the picks for the AFC Division markets for 2023.

Starting off with the AFC East, we’re taking a surprise option right from the off.

A lot of people will be expecting Josh Allen and the Bills to get the job done again, but there looks to be some value in the Miami Dolphins.

The Florida-based franchise were off to a flyer under new head coach Mike McDaniel last season, before QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered two concussions in quick succession and they stuttered to a 9-8 record, finishing second.

It makes you wonder what the Dolphins could have done with a fully healthy Tua, particularly with the offensive talents of Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle at his disposal.

While the rise of the Jets is something to be weary of, this Dolphins team could well trade blows in this division and take home the AFC East title this year.

Tip: Miami Dolphins to win the AFC East (+290, FanDuel)

Following on from their Super Bowl win, you would expect Kansas City to be in the final stretch once again at the bare minimum.

The AFC West is a division full of talent, but while the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes on the field and Andy Reid pulling the strings, it just looks a no-contest.

There’s not a lot of value here, but it’s a safer option than others.

Tip: Kansas City Chiefs to win the AFC West (-180, FanDuel)

This seems straightforward enough – the Bengals could well have a stranglehold on this division for years to come.

Joe Burrow and his offensive weapons of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd have already dominated this division for the last two years, and that will likely continue for a third straight season.

Add the promising Irv Smith Jr. as the pass-catching tight-end, and the Cincinnati offense looks solid. The addition of three Super Bowl winners in the offensive line (T Orlando Brown Jr.) and in defense (S Nick Scott and CB Sidney Jones) will go down well with fans as well.

The Bengals will get the job done here and to do so at +150 looks a steal.

Tip: Cincinnati Bengals to win the AFC North (+150, FanDuel)

This division looks a lot more open than some pundits are suggesting.

Don’t get me wrong, the Jaguars are deserving favourites and they look to be putting their abysmal 1-15 and 3-13 seasons behind them after winning the AFC South in 2022 and reaching the Divisional Round in the playoffs.

However, there’s just something about this Colts team that’s exciting. Their QB carousel could well be ended by first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson, whose extreme level of athleticism is something to watch out for.

Keep Jonathan Taylor fit, Push Michael Pittman to new heights and develop the young talents of Alec Pierce and Josh Downs – and suddenly you have a promising offense with plenty of potential.

It could well be a season too soon for Indianapolis to make a dent in the AFC South title race – but they could be in the mix if Richardson literally hits the ground running.

Tip: Indianapolis Colts to win the AFC South (+550, FanDuel)
