With the 2022/23 Premier League season less than four weeks away, the team have been looking through last year’s stats for some potential gems for next term.
For the next four weeks, the UF squad will reveal a new stat on our UF Insider discord channel between Monday to Thursday before publishing them in more detail on the UF+ feed every Friday.
Here is the first batch of stats from the team.
CASHING IN ON THE ATTACKING RETURNS
While there were plenty of attacking options in UltimateFan last season, there was a hidden gem tucked away in the defender list that had a keen eye for goal.
Aston Villa’s Matty Cash proved to be a valuable defensive option in the game last year, picking up 162 points across the season.
What was most impressive about that tally is that 78 points of his overall total came from goals, assists and shots on target.
The Villa full-back scored more in attacking returns than the likes of Jadon Sancho (70 points), Marcus Rashford (72 points) and Luis Diaz (74 points).
MADDISON’S MAGIC MONTH
James Maddison was effectively unstoppable in May, with the Leicester midfielder delivering big in the final three gameweeks of the season.
The England international claimed 68 points between GW36-38, averaging 22.67 points per gameweek in that timespan.
His total of 68 points was better than the total of Mo Salah, Raul Jimenez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Edinson Cavani, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ivan Toney, Roberto Firmino, Timo Werner & Rodrigo COMBINED (67).
Maddison proved to be a must-start in UF in the closing weeks of the 21/22 season!
SAVED BY THE KEEPER?
Despite finishing below Chelsea in the table and recording a worse goal difference, Tottenham’s team card proved to be a better asset in comparison to Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Spurs scored four more points in total in 21/22 after recording a tally of 284 points while Chelsea finished the campaign on 280 points.
What proved to be the difference-maker in the point totals? The save points.
Spurs claimed 13 more points in that category (97) compared to their London counterparts (84).
THE TRIPLE THREAT EAGLE
Whilst he may be back at his parent club now, Conor Gallagher really left a lasting impression last season – both at Crystal Palace and in UF.
The attacking midfielder was the only player in his position last season to hit a specific total across three categories.
Gallagher was the only midfielder to register 10+ goal contributions (3 goals + 8 assists), 20+ shots on target (23) and 35+ tackles (35) in 2021/22.
